It is fine if you use speakerphone call or voice memo occasionally, but to record a concert that is worthy of sharing, you will want to upgrade your iPhone’ smic with Tascam’s iM2 that adds a set of professional stereo mics.
Also being just a mono affair, the mics built in to the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch are aimed for use in quieter settings, same as sitting on the couch and FaceTiming with a friend. When you used them in a brassier situation they will get distort, so additionally to a stereo set of condenser mics, Tascam has involved its own pre amp in their iM2 letting you to control on sounds as loud as 125db. Once the things gets even brassier, with an adjustable input level it allows you to control on dial things back.
The mics can rotate front to back around 180 degrees depending on how you hold your device and who you are recording, and it features allows a USB pass through allowing the device to be charged while the iM2 is closer to its dock connector. It is awkwardly one more powered accessory, which will take its toll on your iOS device’s battery life, but as a consolation prize Tascam is including a free PCM recorder app with the $79 mic. I know, not really a consolation at all, but no one ever said the life of a concert bootlegger would be an easy one.
