Apple is preparing to launch its new generation iPad with much more resolution displays. So the component makers are seriously challenged with the job of designing backlight solutions that give the iPad something extra than the existing brightness on screen. A single LED backlight bar was designed for iPad 2 .But this seems to be insufficient for iPad 3 since Apple is planning for a much better resolution and a strengthened pixel density, the Retina Display.
The LED backlight unit vendors have put forward two important solutions for the existing dilemma. They have also introduced a new design with a single bar factor but with 2 LED chips embedded inside. But Apple is consistently looking for the latter design with 2 LED light bars in iPad3. However the LED BLU (back light unit) makers have rectified the issues with the initial designs and battery utilization. The issues with the higher resolution and backlight design has already put a halt to the schedule of the new iPad 3. Even now the essential components for the production of iPad3 are arriving at the various manufacturing facilities of Apple. Apple is aiming to start the pre construction of almost 2 million new tablets by December end and to make a launch by March 2012.
Apart from the high resolution display, the new iPad 3 is also aiming to bring in a quad-core A6 processor. Other major changes are believed to be a redesigned dock connector that will reduce the current thickness of the iPad and a thinner and lighter battery pack for better reliability than iPad2. If the Apple sources are to be believed, the company is yet to finalize the design of the upcoming iPad 3. It’s also been reported that the company is working on 2 different projects namely “J1” and “J2” each with a different design specification and technology. The J2 project is considered to be more ambitious than J1 and Apple might soon decide on the final version as to what would suit more for an iPad3.
