21 Tricks & Tips to get the best from your iPhone

Got used to your new iPhone or still facing the intricacies in using it? Here is a list of 25 unique and quite interesting tips that are really going to be of great help in your journey ahead with your wonder phone. Well the list contains 21, but the functions seem to be endless, whether it’s making calls, watching a movie or surfing the net. After weeks of usage and a little bit of feature digging, the iPhone has come up with the following tips and tricks.

1.Using your iPhone as a storage device: An interesting feature of an iPod apart from playing music is its capacity to store data files. But this is something that you can’t do with your iphone. But now with an easy 10 $ program and a Mac, you can definitely have a hand on that. An app called iPhoneDrive from Ecamm Network if present on your iPhone, displays the amount of free storage area on your phone. You can add files to your phone by clicking the copy to iphone option. You can even drag the file to your iPhoneDrive Window. But one thing to be noted is that music and photo file’s usage is off limits.

2. A bigger keyboard for easy net surfing: Any iPhone that requires a typical data entry pops up a keyboard to you. Here before typing in anything, just tilt your iphone to horizontal mode and you onscreen keyboard also appears in a horizontal manner. The display of the keyboard would be much larger, with all the keys, clearly visible and making your data entry easier. Right now, Safari is the only application where you can have a view of the online horizontal keyboard.

3. Creating a home page in Safari: With Safari on your Mac, creating a home page is as easier as typing in a URL address. However this is not possible on your iPhone. Now add your future webpage to your bookmarks list. This will take you to your favorite web page without a any further issues.

4. Sharing the URLs: If you wish to send a URL that you are viewing to your friend, tap on the address bar and give share. A new email message displaying the URL will appear on screen. All you need to do is to enter the email id of your friend and tap on send.

5. Scrolling made easier: Usually if you enter the safari, and encounter a web page, the entire web page scrolls while browsing through it. The trick lies in zooming in and scrolling such area on the webpage with 2 fingers.

6. Safari lets you make calls: If you come across any phone number in a safari, for instance the phone number of a restaurant where you would like to visit, no need of jumping to the call making area, just tap on the number and it will dial it for you.

7. The Links information: In Safari, without taping, just holding on to the link displays a small information balloon that takes you to the URL link of the hyperlink. Now when you receive those “account updates” emails, you can have a view of the exact site they are going to take you to.

8. Mailing Dilemma:  Avoid naming two email accounts with the same name as the conflict happens and it copies the settings of one account to the other. In such a case, just renaming the account won’t do but you will have to create a new account fully.

9. Mark read messages as unread: Though you might find it a bit difficult to mark a read message as unread, on your iPhone, the facility is of course there. When reading a message, you have a details option where you can mark a read message as unread. The next time you get into your inbox, the message will show the unread indicator.

10. Get back your lost emails: You might be trying to send an email and because of the network problem it might not be sent. Don’t think that the message has disappeared; it gets saved in a temporary folder created instantly. This folder can be accessed from the main screen. The folder automatically disappears once the message is sent or once the network gets set.

11. Creating email folders: Well, you might not be able to create a folder on your iPhone, but with an IMAP email account, you can create folders on the IMAP server and these folders will be displayed on your iPhone after which through syncing, the contents of this folder will be made available on your iPhone.

12. Saving your e-mail message as draft: If you are currently working on a message and want to save it somewhere so that you could come back to it later, you have drafts folder where you can do this. If your account doesn’t have one currently, it creates a draft folder for you.

13. Voicemail: With a Bluetooth headset, incoming calls get routed there. An audio option on the Visual Voicemail screen lets you the freedom to set the place from where you can listen to your message.

14. Scrolling through the contacts: It a known thing that usually you have 2 methods of scrolling through the contacts list. Either you scroll with the fingers on the list or type in the name of then contact. Here you can just hold on to alphabetical list and then slide up and down in a more controlled way.

15. Use of favorite and recent list:  These 2 options can be used for something more than just making calls. You can send the contacts an SMS assuming that the numbers in the list belong to a mobile phone. Just tap on the > option next to the contact name and tap the text message button.

16. Get quick driving directions: An iPhone’s map utility can be very well used here by opting for the bookmark option. Recent locations and contacts can be saved and viewed for quick reference.

17. iPod Audio Controls: A feature with the iPod is that you can adjust the playback speed of the audio file. Now the same feature has been brought to your iPhone. The settings screen can also be used to adjust the sound check. A feature that controls the volume consistency.

18. iPod icons:  The options available for an iPod’s bottom screen are Songs, videos, artists and much more. Here if you tap on the more icon, a screen will pop up and display icons for Audiobooks, composers, compilations, Artists, etc . To replace these icons with the one that you already have on the iPod screen, just tap , hold and drag the icon to the place where you need the replacement.

19. Checking the viewed videos: No matter how much space your iPhone has, when it comes to storing video files, you get into trouble. The iphone allows you to delete the viewed videos in order to adjust the storing space. Just tap on the button and the unwanted video gets disappeared.

20. iPhone Notes Syncing : One of the major setbacks of an iphone is that you just can’t sync it with any of the applications on your Mac. But each contact is associated with a notes field, where you can create a note and keep the information in the address book.

21. Restarting your iPhone: Imagine that you iPhone doesn’t respond for a while , and trying to close any application gives you the same result. Apple’s immediate solution is to press the home button for almost 6 sec to exit from an app that has led to this complication. If that method goes invain, the next step would be to press the home and on/off button together for around 10 secs , after which an Apple logo will appear . Though this trick takes a little longer but works out well.

Though some of the tips might be the usual tested ones, hope it remains helpful the next time you encounter any complications with your iPhone.
