Analyst Says That App Store Holds 85-90% Share Of Mobile App Dollars

Apple has often promoted that how much money has been paid out to developers selling apps via App Store. Scott Fostall announced the latest pronouncement that Apple had paid out 3 billion dollars for app sales during the iPhone 4s introduction. Fostall has made a point when sharing these totals that is developing an iOS app is more profitable for developers than other platforms, most markedly Android.

According to Piper Jaffrey analyst Gene Munster, Apple commands 85-90 % of mobile app dollars, with Google’s Android market place generating just 7 percent of the gross revenue of the App Store. Munster foresees that Apple will continue to hold more than 70 percent of mobile app dollars going further.

He also says “Apple developers have made more than $3.4 billion since the App Store opened, compared to Google developers”. The Google developers have just made $240 million then how can it compete to apple. As with all analyst estimates, these numbers should be taken with a little cynicism but compared to all accounts App Store has a tremendous success.
